Q & A With the Class of 2018: V5


Every month we spotlight several members of our current HCLA class.  In this month’s issue, we would like you to meet Mike Winterhalder, Jesse Billingsley, Shanna Young, Branden Voegerl.


Michael Winterhalder

What is your education and work history?
I received my BA in English from IU Bloomington and my MS in Human Resources from Loyola University Chicago.

I have been employed by Navient for the past seven years and my current title is Director, HR Business Partner.  Prior to Navient I worked at Rolls-Royce, and then before moving to Indiana, various companies in Chicago/Illinois where I am from originally.

How long have you lived or worked in Hamilton County?
I have lived in Fishers for twelve years.

Tell us about your family.
I have been married to my wonderful wife for fourteen years and we have two great kids. 

What is your favorite thing to do or location in Hamilton County?
My favorite Hamilton County locations are Connor Prairie and Holland Park.

What is your favorite restaurant in Hamilton County?
Yats

What is the last book (or favorite) that you read?
The last book I read was Winter is Coming by Garry Kasparov


Jessica Billingsley

What is your education and work history?
For my undergraduate degree, I attended DePauw University. I attended law school at IU McKinney School of Law.

How long have you lived or worked in Hamilton County?
I grew up in Fishers, so my entire life excluding college.

Tell us about your family.
My husband, Alex is a software consultant at DeveloperTown. We live in Fishers with our dog, Jalapeño.

What is your favorite thing to do or location in Hamilton County?
When the weather is just right, I’m not sure anything can beat Symphony on the Prairie.

What is your favorite movie or tv show?
I’m always on the hunt for a good tv show, right now I’m binging my way through “Longmire” on Netflix.

Tell us something about yourself that few people know or would expect. 
I have a twin brother! He’s a mechanical engineer living in Dallas, TX.


Shanna Young

What is your education and work history?
My undergraduate studies focused on Sociology.  My graduate studies focused on Non-Profit Management.  Over the last 20 years, I have worked in City Government and the Non-Profit sector in Chicago and the DC area.  I spent 10 years or more, at the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation running a nationwide, multi-million dollar scholarship and grant program.  As a resident of Central Indiana, I have had the pleasure of being part of the Ivy Tech Community College Region 8 Development Office and The Legacy Fund of Hamilton County.

How long have you lived or worked in Hamilton County?
I have worked in Hamilton County for a little over 6 months.

Tell us about your family.
My Best Friend and Life Partner, Marquis and I have 3 awesome children; Shaylyn (21), Amirah (14) and Alijah. Our family also includes a loveable 5yr old pit bull named Shadow.   I am the oldest of 5 children and take great joy in being in charge of my parents and siblings. 

What is the last book (or favorite) that you read?
The last book I read was Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult paired with a romance, mystery, suspense novel by Debra Webb.

What is your favorite food? 
I love Mexican Food

What or who inspires you?
My children and those that I love inspire me.  These are the people who push me to be the best version of myself every day.  I have a responsibility to be a shining example, offer assistance and to give guidance when necessary.


Branden Voegerl

What is your education and work history?
• Graduated from the University of Southern Indiana (USI).
• Short stint with a start up in Carmel called Matrix Global Partners, selling a secure email solution to banks and hospitals.
• Currently, I am a Senior Account Execute at CleanSlate Technology Group.  We are a Platinum IBM Business Partner.

How long have you lived or worked in Hamilton County?
• Currently live in Boone County, but have worked in Hamilton County for the past 11 years.

Tell us about your family.
• My wife (Stephanie) and I have been married for 8 years.  We have 2 children: a daughter (Avery – Age 5) and a son (Bryce – Age 2).

What or who inspires you?
• I would say my family inspires me.  My parents inspired me as a young kid to work hard to achieve what I wanted.  My wife and kids really inspire me to be the best person/father that I can be.

What is your favorite movie or tv show?
• Wow – Sooo many to choose from.  I think Big Bang Theory would have to be amongst the favorites.  Hilarious! 

Tell us something about yourself that few people know or would expect. 
• I have lived in Indiana for my entire life, but I am a huge Dallas Cowboys fan!  My 2 brothers and my father try to go see a game every year.
